Horizon City sits on the desert floor east of El Paso, past the end of the Franklin Mountains. Elevation runs near 4,000 feet. The climate is the same high desert as the rest of the county: hot dry summers, mild winters, and sun most days of the year.

The city has grown quickly, and most of what’s here was built recently. Eastlake Boulevard is the commercial spine. Beyond it, the development thins out into open desert toward the Hueco Mountains.

El Paso is west along I-10, with downtown, UTEP, and Fort Bliss all on that side. Ciudad Juárez sits across the Rio Grande from El Paso. Las Cruces, New Mexico is about an hour northwest.

Eastlake and Horizon Boulevard corridor

The main north-south and east-west arterials through the city. Most retail, schools, and new communities sit along or near them, with Loop 375 and I-10 handling traffic west into El Paso.

East of Darrington

The newer edge of the city, where the larger master-planned communities are going in. Farther from I-10, closer to open desert, generally larger homesites.

A Separate City

Horizon City is its own municipality, not a neighborhood of El Paso. That means its own city services, its own budget, and a smaller local government. The Horizon Regional Municipal Utility District provides water rather than El Paso Water.

Schools

Clint Independent School District serves Horizon City, including Horizon High School. Some addresses on the western edge fall into Socorro ISD, so confirm on the community page.

Getting around

I-10 runs along the southern edge and Loop 375 connects north and west into El Paso. Eastlake Boulevard and Horizon Boulevard carry local traffic. El Paso International Airport is west along I-10.

Fort Bliss

The drive to post runs west through El Paso, generally on Loop 375 or I-10. It’s longer than from the northeast side of El Paso, and it’s the tradeoff most buyers here are weighing. Drive it at your normal commute time.

Newer Construction

Most of Horizon City has been built in the past two decades, so the housing stock skews newer than El Paso’s east side and the street grid is more open.

Outdoors

Horizon Golf Course is in town. Rio Bosque Wetlands Park sits southwest along the Rio Grande. Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site is a short drive north, with bouldering and pictographs. Franklin Mountains State Park is on the far side of El Paso.

Shopping & dining
